2001 was a great year for music because that was the year tv on the radio was born. in addition to being incredible musicians, the founders, tunde adebimpe (vocals), and david andrew sitek (guitars/keyboards) are visual artists. tunde graduated from NYU's film school specializing in stop-motion animation, david is a painter and also produced the yeah yeah yeahs' l.p. fever to tell. the brooklyn based band create post-pop, electronic music unlike any other band out there. their style, no doubt inspired by their background in art will almost certainly reserve their place on the list of influential bands of the early 21st century. spin named return to cookie mountain (tv on the radio's second l.p.) its 2006 album of the year, rolling stone voted it their fourth best of 2006. expect the same accolades from dear science, the band's third l.p., released september 23, 2008. in fact, spin recently proclaimed that tv on the radio, "rock's most visionary crew create a masterful future tableau". click here to watch an in studio set/interview recorded by kcrw's morning becomes eclectic from september 22, 2006. click here to listen to an in-studio interview/set recorded by wxpn for world café on august 12, 2008. click here to listen to a set recorded october 08, 2006 by minnesota public radio for their show the current. don't forget, the album cover image always links to sample songs and the band's image to their website. tv on the radio have a bunch dates scheduled. click here to see if they are playing near you. when you buy dear science, buy it at one of the following retailers; you will receive a free lithograph poster designed by tunde. pretty sweet. as always, please buy this album from your local independent music store and not from retailers like wal-mart (soulless, globally-homogenizing, community-killers) or i-tunes (albums should be listened to as an entire composition with album cover and liner notes in hand). incidentally, these two companies sell more music than any other retailer in the united states. that my friend, bites. tv on the radio rocks. if you agree, please spread the word (about the band and this site). don't worry if you missed the hold on now, youngster... review from last week: here it is. |
